Map Area
Your customized map will be displayed in the Map area. Around this area, you will find a blue border, which you can use to pan (i.e. changing the center point of your map view) in any of the directions indicated.

Zoom Levels
In addition to the Zoom In and Zoom Out tools, the Zoom Levels bar on the right side of the map area can be used to change the zoom level. The advantage of having this feature is that you can skip several zoom levels at a time.

Scale Bar
The scale bar is automatically generated when you create a map. To find out how to change the indicating distance, please refer to the Customizing MSA Map section.

Active Layer
Most of the data categories consist of several active layers  (except "traffic", which is a single layer). For instance, within the Real Estate category, the active layers are Apartments, Office, Industry and Retail. For a complete list of all active layers within each data category, please refer to the Data Category section.

Table of Contents

The Table of Contents area is positioned directly underneath the Active Layer pulldown menu. Its functionality may differ depending on what data category and active layer has been selected. In general, for every selection made in the Table of Contents area, you need to hit the Apply button (at the bottom) to update the map with your criteria.

Here's an overview of functionality for the Table of Contents area:

Data Category / Active Layer Functionalty of Table of Contents
Real Estate Narrow down your search for any type of real estate property, by using the available input fields to enter your query/search parameters.
Traffic The Traffic data currently consists of only one layer. That means you can either turn it on or off.
Demographic For the demographic data category, the Active Layer selection and the Table of Contents are not linked. In other words, when you select a different layer off the Active Layer pulldown menu, the Table of Contents does not automatically update itself. Keep this in mind when using the Identify tool, which will only list the properties of the current Active Layer.
Environmental Like the Demographic data category, the Active Layer pulldown menu and Table of Contents area are not linked (does not automatically update). You can turn on/off the desired environmental features in the Table of Content area (hit Apply to update your map). Make sure you switch on the desired Active Layer selection while using the Identify tool.
Major Features Same functionality as the Demographic and Environmental category (see sections above).
